Hedgebrook retreat

Applications are open until April 7 for the weeklong workshop/retreat I'm leading at Hedgebrook from June 22-26. All woman-identified writers of nonfiction are welcome to apply. This is the only time I'll be teaching in person this year and I'm really excited to gather with students on Whidbey Island. We'll be staying in Hedgebrook's perfect Narnia cottages, eating beautiful dinners together every night, and meeting each morning to talk about writing. I'll also be offering one-on-one sessions in the afternoons. Here's the class description:

Adventures in Overwhelm: A workshop about creative nonfiction

Writing from life can be messy, complex and, yes, overwhelming. Where to start? What to include? This weeklong workshop will explore ways to approach, generate, and structure memoir and other nonfiction. We'll be reading from your work as we delve into discussions about voice, subject matter, plot, and ethics--and I'll be offering generative exercises as well. I hope you'll come away from this week energized, supported, and filled with new ideas about how to go about the work of writing.

Your tuition supports Hedgebrook's longtime commitment to nurturing emerging writers and helping crucial voices be heard.
